As I board the bus, I feel a sense of triumph. My team and I are on our way to play in the state championships. I think back to

the beginning of the season. We lost our first three games. After the difficult start, no one thought we could come back and win the rest. We proved everyone wrong. We proved ourselves wrong! I find my seat next to my best friend and fellow fullback. We ______ out the window as the bus pulls away. We are off. Which best fits in the blank?

The correct answer is:

We gazed out the window as the bus pulls away.

This is a way of looking. The verb "gaze" means looking at something for a long time. The text contributes with the idea that the characters felt a sense of triumph and also that they looked out the window <em>"as the bus pulls away". </em>According to that, the text provides with the idea that the way in which they looked was for a long time.
