The anti-federalists were afraid of a tyrannical government like the British monarchy and wanted their basic human rights protected by the Constitution. So, they wanted the Bill of Rights to be added to protect the rights which were taken from them while under British rule.

The government wanted to keep the number of free and slave states equal so that neither of would throw off the balance of congress.
For example, if there was more slave states in congress, then most likely the laws would be made in favor of slavery. Or vice versa.
