Can someone please help me understand the difference between an active and passive voice. How do you identify the two?

Active voice is when the subject of the sentence performs the action expressed in the verb. Passive voice is when the subject is acted upon; he/she receives the action that is expressed by the verb. Most of the time but not always, to identify passive voice is when their is when it says, "... by the ..." For ex, The boy was bitten by the dog. An ex of active voice would be, The dog bit the boy. the subject (the dog) bit (action verb) the boy. Hoped this helped!
