In Egypt, the scribes were the most important people since they were used for math and hieroglyphic scripts. The scribes inherited the jobs from their fathers and went to a special school to learn the trade.

Scribes would also cut sheets of parchment and write books with quills. They had to make the ink themselves, bind the books together, and make sure to protect the books with a special cover. They were only allowed to make one mistake per day. The most successful scribes could write maybe 2 books a year.
