He created the Eco-Soap Bank, an initiative that recycles soap (after sanitizing them) from hotels to create new soap bars that are then distributed to rural communities. This initiative benefits people who cannot afford buying soap by improving their access to better hygiene, mitigating illness and disease related to lack of sanitation. Also, it helps reduce waste generated by hotels and provides an opportunity for disadvantaged women get access to a reliable source of income and free education. After being elected a CNN Hero, Lakhani was able to expand his efforts from Cambodia to other countries like: Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, Lebanon, Nepal, Cambodia, Laos and Eswatini.
