Abraham was elected in 1860. Some of the southern states were out raged by the election because of anti-slavery acts. Which some states threaten to leave the union. By the end of 1860 South Carolina was the first state to secede from the union which was followed by other states by the start of 1861. These are some things that happened earlier before the Civil War. Hope this helps ;)
