English is, along with Spanish, an official language of Puerto Rico. Spanish has been an official language since the colonization of Puerto Rico in the 15th century. On the other hand, English was first introduced as an official language during the Spanish–American War. This happened when the USA occupied the island. So English is a language that all high school students must learn in Puerto Rico.
