A is the most suitable answer, although all of the answers are technically correct. B, C and D all serve to add <em>clarity</em> to an essay, which in turn adds interest. A directly adds interest, and the clarity comes as a secondary effect.
Think about it like this... Non fiction is a real story (George Washington crossing the Delaware) but Fiction is a made up story (George Washington cutting down a cherry tree)<span />
Keep in mind that inciting is to persuade, pressure or to make a person him/her act or participate in a certain violent or unlawful situation he/she might not want to be in. Without this word, “curb looking at the man” could be misinterpreted. The curb could not possibly look at the man as it is not a living being and does not have eyes.
