As one of the harsh conditions imposed on Germany as part of the Versailles Treaty, Germany was required to pay war reparations to the Allied countries. Meaning, they were required to pay for all the war damages.
This punishment was absolutely ridiculous, as Germany had, like, no money because of the Great Depression.
