Both of these paintings are of women, however, the piece on the left is done in a more realistic and renaissance style. The piece on the right is abstract. It uses many colors, while the Mona Lisa uses darker and more neutral tones.

Split-complementary is a color scheme using one base color and two secondary colors. Instead of using a complementary color, two colors placed symetrically around it on the color wheel are used.

A triadic color scheme uses colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel. Triadic color harmonies tend to be quite vibrant, even if you use pale or unsaturated versions of your hues.
