Illustrate any three ways by which harmful substances could contaminate food
Sergeeva-Olga [200]

Three ways by which harmful substances could contaminate food are physical contamination, chemical contamination and biological contamination.

Further explanation

Contamination is when something unpleasant or harmful ends up in food. Contamination can happen in one of three ways:

 1. Physical contaminations are any physical objects in food that are not meant to be in the food. It can include hair, glass, and insects. For example, some physical contaminants such as hair are not considered food safety concerns. While others as glass are considered food safety concerns.
 2. Chemical contaminations are any chemicals in food that are not meant to be in the food product. It can be including antibiotics, pesticides, and cleaning agents. Chemical contamination is also when a food contains pesticides or cleaning/other chemicals.
 3. Biological contamination is when food becomes contaminated by bacteria or a virus, parasites or mold. There are two types of harmful bacteria in terms of food safety, such as pathogenic and spoilage. Where pathogenic is one of the harmful bacteria that cause food poisoning, whereas spoilage is one of the harmful bacteria that cause food to rot, decompose and perish
