The answer is B: they want to criticize socially accepted values.

Satire is a form of literature that explodes irony and humor, amongst other rhetorical devices, in order to expose social injustices and flawed social and personal prejudices. This kind of literature is critical and incisive, but it is also constructive in as much as it usually lets the reader envision new forms of social developments that would alleviate suffering and pain.

How does Ms. Gates comments about democracy contradict what we have seen happen in Maycomb?
olchik [2.2K]

Answer:

Miss Gates tells that students that Hitler is able to treat Jews poorly because he is the government. She goes on to teach the children that the US is a democracy and Germany is a dictatorship. In her explanation of the differences between the countries she says that "Over here we don’t believe in persecuting anybody. Persecution comes from people who are prejudiced." What is ironic in her explanation is that people, including herself, are prejudiced towards African Americans. She is forgetting that Tom Robinson is being persecuted because of the prejudices the townspeople have.

Which sentence best describes the relation between a superpower and other nations? Base your answer on the meaning
miskamm [114]

According to the prefix "super-" we can confirm that a superpower is stronger and exerts more authority over nations, as shown in option B.

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • The prefix "super-" comes from Latin and means superiority.
  • When this prefix is used in the word "superpower" it means that there is something more potent, has more strength and power than others.
  • A superpower is a very powerful country and this shows that this nation is stronger and exerts a great influence over less powerful nations.

Thus, we can say that prefixes are very important to understand the meaning of a word.
