The correct answer to this question would be alternative C)"The city and its surroundings were almost completely destroyed."

The Battle of Verdun was the largest and longest battle of World War I. It was fought between German and French forces, in the north-eastern region of France, in the hills north of Verdun-sur-Meuse.

Being such an extensive battle, it's to be expected that the village would be destroyed, as it was.

Why did the colonies and Britain fail to achieve a compromise to avert hostilities?
postnew [5]
The main reason is that neither side was willing to compromise on the idea of taxation. The British need revenue to pay for the French and Indian War, and the colonists were upset that they had no representation in Congress. There was little-to-no room for compromise.
