Answer: Jada travels faster at a speed of 45mph

Step-by-step explanation:

When you divide the overall miles from the time it takes you get the miles per hour.

Jada: 135/3= 45

Andre: 228/6= 38

Jada travels at 45mph as Andre travels at 38mph.

Hope this helps!

Answer:

1. Java traveled 45 miles in 1 hour.

2. Andrew traveled 38 miles in 1 hour.

3. Java traveled faster.

Step-by-step explanation:

<u><em>1. How far did Java travel in 1 hr?</em></u>

The rule of three or is a way of solving problems of proportionality between three known values and an unknown value, establishing a relationship of proportionality between all of them. That is, what is intended with it is to find the fourth term of a proportion knowing the other three. Remember that proportionality is a constant relationship or ratio between different magnitudes.

If the relationship between the magnitudes is direct, that is, when one magnitude increases, so does the other, the direct rule of three must be applied. To solve a direct rule of three, the following formula must be followed:

a ⇒ b

c ⇒ x

So: x=\frac{c*b}{a}

By knowing that Java traveled at a constant speed it is possible to know that it travels the same distance every hour. Then the direct rule of three can be applied in this case as follows: if Java traveled 135 miles in 3 hours, how many miles did it travel in 1 hour?

miles traveled=\frac{1 hour*135 miles}{3 hours}

miles traveled= 45

Then, <em>Java traveled 45 miles in 1 hour.</em>

<em><u>2. How fard did Andrew travel in 1 hour?</u></em>

Applying the same reasoning as in the previous case it is possible to determine the amount of miles that Andrew traveled: if Andrew traveled 228 miles in 6 hours, how many miles did he travel in 1 hour?

miles traveled=\frac{1 hour*228 miles}{6 hours}

miles traveled= 38

Then, <em>Andrew traveled 38 miles in 1 hour.</em>

<u><em>3.  Who traveled faster?</em></u>

To know who traveled faster, you should know the speed, this is the amount of space traveled per unit of time with which a body (in this case Java or Andrew) travels.

The mile per hour (mph) is a unit of speed measurement that expresses the number of miles traveled per hour. This is the unit of measure used in this case. Using the previously calculated values, it is possible to say that Java moves at a speed of 45 mph and Andrew moves at a speed of 38 mph. As the speed of Java is higher, then <em>Java traveled faster</em>.

A lidless box is to be made using 2m^2 of cardboard find the dimensions of the box that requires the least amount of cardboard
Jlenok [28]
1.8, Problem 37: A lidless cardboard box is to be made with a volume of 4 m3 . Find the dimensions of the box that requires the least amount of cardboard. Solution: If the dimensions of our box are x, y, and z, then we’re seeking to minimize A(x, y, z) = xy + 2xz + 2yz subject to the constraint that xyz = 4. Our first step is to make the first function a function of just 2 variables. From xyz = 4, we see z = 4/xy, and if we substitute this into A(x, y, z), we obtain a new function A(x, y) = xy + 8/y + 8/x. Since we’re optimizing something, we want to calculate the critical points, which occur when Ax = Ay = 0 or either Ax or Ay is undefined. If Ax or Ay is undefined, then x = 0 or y = 0, which means xyz = 4 can’t hold. So, we calculate when Ax = 0 = Ay. Ax = y − 8/x2 = 0 and Ay = x − 8/y2 = 0. From these, we obtain x 2y = 8 = xy2 . This forces x = y = 2, which forces z = 1. Calculating second derivatives and applying the second derivative test, we see that (x, y) = (2, 2) is a local minimum for A(x, y). To show it’s an absolute minimum, first notice that A(x, y) is defined for all choices of x and y that are positive (if x and y are arbitrarily large, you can still make z REALLY small so that xyz = 4 still). Therefore, the domain is NOT a closed and bounded region (it’s neither closed nor bounded), so you can’t apply the Extreme Value Theorem. However, you can salvage something: observe what happens to A(x, y) as x → 0, as y → 0, as x → ∞, and y → ∞. In each of these cases, at least one of the variables must go to ∞, meaning that A(x, y) goes to ∞. Thus, moving away from (2, 2) forces A(x, y) to increase, and so (2, 2) is an absolute minimum for A(x, y).
