First at all, it is a poem based on George Orwell's novel 1984 which reveals his feelings about the reality seen by him as slavery, war, ignorance, injustice and all the horrible things that are leading humanity in a terrible path. He is specificly outlining the role of the government, which is, according to him, an entity that performs a thoughtcrime controlling over every action and thought of people from Oceanía exactly as it was in the Orwell's novel and making him feel death even if he is alife.

Identify the italicized word. The day of the big game was *exciting*.
ELEN [110]

Answer:

predicate adjective

Explanation:

The day of the big game was *exciting*. The word exciting is an adjective and it has been placed in the predicate of the sentence. Therefore, it says something about the subject : The day of the big game. What does it say about this? It gives qualitative information; it tells what the day of the big game was like for the speaker. The speaker thinks it was exciting, so she has linked the day of the big game with exciting through the verb to be, which is a linking verb. Therefore, exciting functions as a predicate adjective.
