When analysing a literary text, there are three main things one needs to do:

1.-We need to give a thesis or topic sentence indicating a basic observation or assertion about the text or passage.

2.- We need to offer a context for the passage without offering too much summary.

3.- We need to cite the passage using the correct format.

It would not be advisable to say that one is more important that other, even though I would also concur on the fact that Citing evidence from the passage is a key element of the process, the other two are also quite important.
