In "The Land", Part 4, by Mildred D. Taylor, based on this excerpt a reasonable prediction is that<em> Paul and his father will argue about Paul riding Sutcliffe's horses</em>. Paul rides one of his father's horses and wins a race. Ray Sutcliffe is very impressed by this and asks Paul's father if Paul can ride his horse in next day's race. Paul's father turns down the offering. Paul wants to ride Sutcliffe's horse and they continue arguing after Sutcliffe has left.
