What is the name of the process that occurs when complementary pieces of dna or rna bind to each other?
frez [133]
The association of a DNA or RNA strand to its complement is one of the basic research tools of the molecular biologist. Binding of a compliment can identify target regions of DNA or RNA, and can be used to disrupt the process of DNA manufacture. If the complementary DNA is labeled with a compound that fluoresces, then the binding of the fluorescent probe can actually be visualized using a microscope. This permits the "real time" examination of DNA synthesis.

How does a mutation in the RAS gene lead to uncontrolled cellular division?
kramer

Answer: I would think A but get a second opinion to be 100% sure, okay.

If the question were why can’t a mutated RAS gene stop uncontrolled cellular division/cancer I could easily answer the question. So if you also need that answered I could just saying.

If the initiating codon of a mRNA became mutated, what would the effect be on the transcript?
faltersainse [42]

Answer:

Translation will not occur.

Explanation:

The start codon is responsible for the initiation of translation in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. AUG is the start codon in both which code for methionine in eukaryotes and formyl methionine and prokaryotes.

Therefore if the starts codon becomes mutated than the tRNA would not able to recognize the initiation codon and no methionine would be added as the first amino acid so the translation process might not start and no protein forms. Then the ribosome scans further for the next start codon to start translation.
