A career officer who had never seen combat until World War II, Eisenhower's humility, commitment to teamwork, and general strategic "smarts" proved invaluable for the Allied victories which occurred from 1942 onwards in the European Theater of Operations. Yes. The US forces joined the British when they landed in Algiers on 8 Nov 1942. They defeated the German army in North Africa by early 1943. General Dwight D. Eisenhower had this command. His success as the victor over Germany made his a national hero in the US and led to his election as US president in 1952.</span>
