On her way home from school, Doris always checked the mailbox to see if any mail had come. Today, there wasn't anything in the m

ailbox, but there were three boxes next to it. One of the boxes was nearly as big as she was. The second box was even bigger, and the third was the biggest box she had ever seen.
2Doris loved getting mail, so she opened the first box immediately. When she lifted the lid, a hairy arm reached out and squeezed her nose. Doris let out a little scream of surprise. There was a monkey inside the box! It hopped around the yard and climbed up a tree.

3Doris wondered what could possibly be in the other boxes. The third box was so big she was unable to open it, so she opened the second instead. Inside was a tiny car. The headlights came on, and it drove out of the box. The door opened and a clown shoe slowly appeared. The shoe belonged to a clown, who was followed out of the car by another clown, and then another clown. Soon, seven clowns were standing in her yard, throwing pies.

Suddenly, the mailman came running up the road. “There's been a horrible mistake,” he yelled. “Those boxes were supposed to be delivered to the circus!”

"A Very Special Delivery".

Read the passage.

A
