You are given that y=x+1 so simply substituting this value of y into the first equation is the simplest way to start...3x=3y-3 becomes:

3x=3(x+1)-3  perform indicated multiplication on right side

3x=3x+3-3  combine like terms on right side

3x=3x  this is true for any real value of x so there are infinitely many solutions.

Which might be easier to see if you divide the first equation by 3...

3x=3y-3  divide entire equation by 3

x=y-1 add 1 to both sides

x+1=y or

y=x+1 which is equal to the second original equation.

So essentially the two equations are the same line, that is why there are infinitely many solutions as each point on one line is equal to the same point on the "other" line.

Westkost [7]

From the given f(x) and g(x), the value of (g-f)(2)=1

Given :

The functions are

f(x)=\frac{x+3}{x^2-x-12} \\g(x)=log_4(x)

Lets evaluate (g-f)(2)

(g-f)(2)=g(2)-f(2)

To find out g(2), replace 2 for x  in g(x) and then replace 2 for x in f(x)

f(x)=\frac{x+3}{x^2-x-12} \\g(x)=log_4(x)\\x=2\\f(2)=\frac{2+3}{2^2-2-12}=\frac{5}{-10}=-\frac{1}{2}  \\\\g(2)=log_4(2)=\frac{1}{2}

Now we find g(2)-f(2)

(g-f)(2)=g(2)-f(2)=\frac{1}{2}-\frac{-1}{2}  =1

The triangles ABD, ADC and ABC are similar (AA stands for "angle, angle" and means that the triangles have two of their angles equal).

If two triangles have two of their angles equal, the triangles are similar.

Therefore the sides of triangles are in proportion.

\dfrac{c}{6}=\dfrac{2}{c}

cross multiply

c\cdot c=6\cdot2\\\\c^2=12\to c=\sqrt{12}

Use the Pythagorean theorem for calculate x:

x^2=2^2+(\sqrt{12})^2\\\\x^2=4+12\\\\x^2=16\to x=\sqrt{16}\to\boxed{x=4}
