How Russia Won the Battle of Stalingrad. 26th November 1942: Armed with light machine guns, Soviet troops attack the German forces in the vicinity of the Red October plant in Stalingrad. In the spring of 1942, the German offensive against the Soviet Union was nearly a year old.
