1. The rule of thirds is a basic rule in photography where the photographer mentally divides the image using 2 horizontal and 2 vertical lines.  

2. By having certain parts of the image be on one of the intersection points, it draws the attention of the viewer. Basically making the photo more interesting.

3. By using this rule, you can defiantly improve the way a certain photo appears to be. With this I could say, using the rule of thirds, makes a photo more interesting.

When I trace something I normally printout the picture and put it on top of a light box then tape it to the corners so it's secured in place. After I have done that I place a blank piece of paper above it and start tracing. Use pencil first though!
