Having bad behavior in class can, and will always a decrease participation grade. When in class and a teacher asks a student to participate the student should follow directions and give the teacher their undivided attention. If a student is talking and showing signs that they are not engaged the teacher can fairly conclude that the student isn't following directions nor, are they being respectful. If a comes to the conclusion that a student is not participating it can be for some of the following reasons: talking, not following directions, not tracking the speaker, doing other assignments, not raising their hand, being unable to pick up on simple questions a teacher may ask and many more. The decrease in their participation grade would come only from the student not being respectful to their teacher.
