Thomas Jefferson, drew ideas from the natural rights to justify declaring independence from England. Jefferson argued that  people had the right to overthrow their government when it abused their fundamental natural rights over a long period of time. This includes the taxation without representation. He argued that "all men are created equal," "inalienable rights," "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. He adopted John Locke's theory of natural rights to provide a reason for revolution
