Answer:

The story of Oedipus The king shows the gods as someone who curses their own people fro no reason but also at the same time expect them to worship and turn to them for guidance and help.

Explanation:

Ancient Greek stories have a lot of details showing their gods in all their finery and helping out men in their need but they also are full of negative attributes and easily destroy lives and places in anger. And they are known to put curses on even their own off-springs. While it is customary to pray to gods for help, these same gods are also the causes of most of the wars and they too participate with each having their own sides. In Oedipus, The king, we see that even these gods are at work. They had already predicted the fate of Oedipus before he was even born. A curse was on him that he will bring upon the destruction of his father. That curse came true, but unknowing to Oedipus. He killed the king of Thebes and married the queen, who turned out to be his own mother. In this play, the gods played a big role in how the characters turn out. It was because of the curse that was upon Oedipus that ruined the kingdom. In lines 467, Tiresias said "I served Apollo" and this is evident of him being the medium for the god's message to men and also his dependence on the gods even when threatened. And Tiresias talks of the doom that will befall on Oedipus. Lines 784-800 shows Jocasta the queen and wife/mother of Oedipus describing the same details of the curse and the death of Laius, Oedipus' father and her husband. These predictions by the gods are evident of them being gods, cursing them and also at the same time being worshiped for guidance and help.

Explain why you think that lunches from home should not be banned 2-3 sentences
kow [346]

Answer:

Lunches from home should not be banned because some of the students need to follow strict diets that schools cannot provide. Some schools may give out foods that students just don't want to eat because they are unhealthy or just because they don't want it. Lunches from home seem cheaper than buying it from the school too.

In line 104, what does Martha mean when she says “His face looked innocent, but I knew better.”?
liq [111]

Answer:

Martha says that Mr. Schmidt's "face looked innocent" because he thinks that she has no idea about how there were a short misunderstanding and controversy over who must get the scholarship while in reality, Martha had overheard the conversation. Moreover, she has also had to deal with a short disappointment in getting the jacket, like she rightly deserves to.

Explanation:

Marta Salinas's short story "The Scholarship Jacket," tells the story of a school girl named Martha and her achievement of getting the school's scholarship jacket, though not without any obstacles along the way. But despite the short disappointment, Martha was able to get the long-awaited jacket that she has been vying for a long time.

When Martha said<em> "His face looked innocent, but I knew better"</em>, she was referring to Mr. Schmidt, her history teacher who she overheard having a tense conversation with her math teacher Mr. Boone over who should be given the jacket. While Mr. Boone favors Joann whose father is rich and a Board member, Mr. Schmidt wants Martha to get it and she rightly deserves it because of her perfect grades. But both teachers did not know Martha overheard their conversation.

So, when Mr. Schmidt congratulated her, Martha stated that <em>"his face looked innocent"</em> as if Martha doesn't know anything about the conversation or even the disappointment she was given on the path to getting the jacket. But in truth, Martha knew everything and that was why she admitted <em>"[she] knew better." </em>
