In the first example, we see a case of endorsement. Endorsement refers to a person defending a particular position or product not because of the actual positive elements of the object or idea, but because of the benefits that he gets in doing so.
In the second case, we see an example of the either-or fallacy, also called a false dilemma. This arises when a speaker presents two possible options, both of which are undesirable, but all other possible options are avoided or dismissed.
