The farewell address was rooted in the challenges he saw in America at that time such as internal divisions and threat of invasion by stronger nations. He told the citizens to admire the constitution as the best means of preserving their liberty. he warned against permanent alliances with foreign nations but instead to rely on temporary alliances for emergencies.
