To convert a number from standard form to scientific notation,

number>10 Move the decimal to the left until thee number is between 1 and 10. Add " x 10^n," where n is the number of places you moved the decimal.

number <1 Move the decimal to the right until thee number is between 1 and 10. Add " x 10^-n," where n is the number of places you moved the decimal.
