There was little to no concern for safety or sanitation, the factories were cramped, the machines were dangerous, and the people were seen as expendable. As soon as someone was injured or even killed from working in a factory, it was easy to find someone else to replace that person, and the wages were minimal. In your letter, you can recommend that the government interfere with these companies to make sure that there are regulations to protect workers, both physically and economically.
