The theory of mind designates, in cognitive science, not a theory, but the cognitive ability allowing an individual to attribute unobservable mental states to oneself even or to other individuals.  

This ability is central to human social cognition and plays a key role in social interactions - communication, empathy, collaboration, teaching, competition, etc.

The theory of mind is a theory in the sense that the presence of one's own mind and that of others can only be inferred through introspection, and through the conjecture that others, having attitudes and behaviors similar to ours, also have their own mental states.

In this sense, each individual has his own theory of mind, and certain conditions such as autism and schizophrenia have been interpreted as a specific deficit of this ability.

Some other indicators are:

and the rate of inflation
