In this story, author's use of juxtaposition portrays the main character in great detail through the countless acts of character's realisation and analysis of her life. Lizabeth reflects that she had, “…a strange restlessness of body and of spirit, a feeling that something old and familiar was ending and something unknown and therefore terrifying was beginning" as she grew up and it scared her more and more. She regretted all the bad things she did as a child and the author's use of character vs self conflict created this suspense and showed how Lizabeth has changed through her experience.

The motif of marigolds is juxtaposed to the grim, dusty, crumbling landscape from the very beginning of the story. They are an isolated symbol of beauty, as opposed to all the mischief and squalor the characters live in. The moment Lizabeth and the other children throw rocks at the marigolds, "beheading" a couple of them, is the beginning of Lizabeth's maturation. The culmination is the moment she hears her father sobbing, goes out into the night and destroys the perfect flowers in a moment of powerless despair. Then she sees the old woman, Miss Lottie, and doesn't perceive her as a witch anymore. Miss Lottie is just an old, broken woman, incredibly sad because the only beauty she had managed to create and nurture is now destroyed. This image of the real Miss Lottie is juxtaposed to the image of her as an old witch that the children were afraid of. Actually, it is the same person; but Lizabeth is not the same little girl anymore. She suddenly grows up, realizing how the woman really feels, and she is finally able to identify and sympathize with her.

How can stasis questions help you when you are creating an argument?
wolverine [178]

The way that stasis questions can help you in an argument is that it would help you build common ground with your audience so that the argument is more persuasive.

What are statis questions?

These are questions that are used in arguments to show that there are issues that are being contested or questions that must first be answered for the argument to continue.

The central issues would first be identified and then they would be resolved using arguments.

I need a deep, meaningful poem. It can be about anything.
Flauer [41]

Answer:

Personal poem one:

It's been so long since I've seen the sun.

Light.

Ages since I've swam out of the water that pulls me under.

I'm stuck here.

Drowning forever.

Drowning as I walk past ignorant people.

When I scream it sounds muffled, they can't hear me.

I give up trying to ask for help.

Even if I swam out, they wouldn't hear me.

They'd still be deaf to my words.

(It doesn't matter how many times I try to explain how I feel, no one will ever understand)

Personal poem two:

Flowers and sunshine mix so perfectly together

As the sun hits the flower, wish it could last forever

But what about the other flowers that cannot reach the sun?

What about the other flowers, don't they deserve some?

Left behind, like all the other weeds

While the violets and daisies steal the sun, so they lead

The sunshine away from the rest left behind

Making the sun blind to the pretty flowers that shine

Poor other flowers that can't reach the sun

Poor other flowers that will always deserve some

(Everyone else always ends up stealing the spotlight, I wish it would shine on me, even for a second)

Good luck! Hope this helped :)

Match each character definition to the correct character type.
Oksana_A [137]

Flat character - A predictable character who has only one dominant characteristic

Flat characters are those that play a side role in the story, they do not change (or change too little) in the course of the narrative, they are simple, only exhibit one or two qualities, and do not show any emotional depth, thus, they tend to be very predictable.

Round character - A character who is complex in nature, with multiple aspects to his or her personality

A round character is the one that is the most similar to real humans being: they are complex, have multiple aspects or layers of personality, have depth in feelings and passions, have contradicting or inconsistent behaviors and they go through major changes throughout the story. This type of character is usually one of the main characters.

Dynamic character - a character who changes gradually during the course of the story

Dynamic characters are those that are not as complex as round characters but they do have experiences that lead them to gradually undergo changes or substantial transformation through the story, whether in personality, attitude, points of view or maturity; and these changes don't tend to be described outright, rather, these traits are referred to as they change over time.

Static character - A character who does not develop much during the story

Static characters are those that may have an interesting personality that attracts people's interest, and can also be protagonists, but that don't develop much (or nothing at all) during the story.
