World War one was the stage where the Russian government failed to adapt in the modern world :

The Romanov dynasties wanted to enforce the harsh rule and didn't modernize the country according to the political and social reforms that Western European countries were advocating, instead, it pursued the continuation of aristocratic rule.

However, the defeat of Russians troops at the Eastern Front, contributed greatly to the outbreak of the October Revolution since the country was in the midst of collapse and a major civil war went to change permanently the face of Russia towards the world.

The Revolution meant that the war with Germany was lost and the signalling fo the armistice enabled the major changes to take place with the Bolsheviks in power.

The Russian revolution had the effect of putting an end to the major arena of fighting on the Eastern Front In World War 1. it temporarily helped the Germans by freeing up the troops, but this advantage did not do the Germans much good throughout World War 1
