On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik into space. People in American could not believe what their eyes were watching and their ears were listening. United States citizens expressed concerns for the lag of his country in the space race. In 1960, John F. Kennedy commented that he would be invested a lot of money on the U.S. space program. That would be a priority of his administration.  

On April 12, 1961, the Soviet Union did it again. They launched Vistock 1, with Yuri Gagarin into space. Kennedy urges its scientist to do the same. The United States improves math and science education. Katherine G. Johnson’s intelligence and mathematics acute made possible to send John Glenn to space.

I don’t have a lot but The Soviets put the first satellite and the first man into space. However, the USA won the race when they landed a man on the moon in 1969 (hoped this helped)
