How did Mikhail Gorbachev differ from previous Soviet leaders?

History

Answer:

The correct answer is B. Mikhail Gorbachev differed from previous Soviet leaders as he recognized that the Soviet Union needed to adapt.

Explanation:

When Mikhail Gorbachev came to power, he found a country with serious problems. After the death of Stalin three decades earlier, the denunciation of his repressive methods never led people to question the communist monopoly of power. On the other hand, the arms race with the West had contributed to economic stagnation.

To change things, Gorbachev announced a program of reforms that would become popular through the slogans of perestroika (restructuring) and glasnost (transparency). Its objective was not to establish a democracy, but to proceed to a revitalization of socialism. But what it achieved was just the opposite: the fall of the communist system and the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Vinvika [58]

Answer: The comparison of Nicholas II and Vladimir Lenin

Explanation Both the leaders were hungry for power and came onto to become leaders by promising good for the people but the similarity didn't catch one's eye but how different to each historical figure was has been highlighted many a time.

  • Nicholas II was czar and hence being born into a royal family made him an obvious leader whereas Lenin gained prominence in the party and came into power thus.
  • Lenin had the willingness to lead Russia used the Bolshevik party to do so, however the Tsar was happy to be with his family and pets and not a bit interested in leadership.
  • Nicholas II and his entire family were assassinated whereas Lenin died of natural causes way later.
  • Lenin was the more brutal of the two and used his power to get what he wanted even if it meant  torturing or murdering. here Nicholas made some concessions.
  • The military responsibility was on Nicholas II during his regime but when Lenin took over he would delegate it.

Finally, none of them actually cared for the poor, the oppressed were further in distress when these two came to power.

ladessa [460]

Answer:

Latin America was closer to the U.S., so it was considered more essential to the country's security.

Explanation:

The U.S. took a more active role in preventing the spread of Communism in Latin America versus Asia or Europe because: "Latin America was closer to the U.S., so it was considered more essential to the country's security."

Latin America is characterized by the countries in the American continent that are mostly either Spanish or Portuguese speakers. The South American continent has various countries in which they speak either Spanish and Portuguese. South America is closer to the United States which is located in the North American continent.

Hence, because of the greater risks in the spread of communism near them, which is South America, the United States took a more active role in preventing the spread of Communism in Latin America versus Asia or Europe
