Question #1: Which answer is a complete and correct summary of this part of the speech?

The correct answer would be option D: "Unlike other countries that stay, it is time for these people in service to return home from war". In the speech, the president says several things, that other nations occupy the countries, that those soldiers a long distance from home, and that their families have grown in their absence, but, the main idea of the speech is to convey that the soldiers are finally going home after the war. Option A is incorrect because it is just a supporting detail, not the main idea of the passage, asi is the case with option B as well. Option C is incorrect because 9/11 is not mentioned in the excerpt.

Question #2: Which topic best relates to the central idea in this part of the speech?

The central idea of the speech is option a: going home, therefore it cannot be a topic that relates to the central idea, so it is not the correct answer. Options B is just a detail mentioned, not a supporting idea, therefore it is also incorrect. Option C is not a topic mentioned explicitly in that part of the passage, so it is also incorrect. The idea that is mentioned as a supporting idea in the speech, although it is not explicitly expressed, is that the soldiers have been traveling the world (as inferred by the phrase mentioned: "after 100,00 miles, on the longest carrier deployment in recent history"), so the correct answer would be option D:"Traveling the world".

Question #3: How does the sentence "Our mission continues" support the central idea of the speech?

The central idea is that the soldiers are going home, but by saying that "our mission continues" it implies that it is not over, its just a "recess" so the soldiers may be going home after a long time, but it is not permanent, they will have to come back because the fight is not finished. Therefore the correct answer would be option A: "It supports the idea that service people returning home will be called back out quite soon". Option B and C are incorrect because the fight is not the main idea in the passage and option D is also incorrect because the military is not fleeing, they are going home to recuperate.

Identify and evaluate the meaning and purpose of an example each of irony and satire from "The Devil and Tom Walker."
Stells [14]

Irving writes that no one really knows what happened to Tom's wife, however when Tom finds the missing checked cloth with a heart and liver inside and observes the scene near it, he concludes that his wife must have battled the devil and eventually lost--not easily, though, because Tom notices that there were

"many prints of cloven feet deeply stamped about the tree, and several handsful of hair, that looked as if they had been plucked from the coarse black shock of the woodsman. Tom knew his wife's prowess by experience."

The description is ironic on a couple of counts. First, the fact that Tom's wife was so stingy and stubborn that she would have given the devil a harsh time bargaining and fighting fits into Irving's typical, ironic description of the nagging wife.  Secondly, the last sentence refers back to the abuse that Tom often suffered at the hands of his wife, and he almost sympathizes for the devil in regards to the battle between him and Mrs. Walker.

Which sentence uses a present participle form of a verb?
kramer

Answer:

Present participles appear in progressive (or continuous) verb tenses, which show when a verb or action was/is in the process of happening. For example: A sentence in the present progressive tense is: “She is sitting now.” A sentence in past progressive tense is: “She was sitting there 10 minutes ago.”

P.S. Write this in your own words.
