Sheila Birling was part of the reason that Eva Smith gave her life away. Sheila released her anger and stress on Eva out of jealousy, and seeing someone prettier than her smile at her. She was the reason Eva got fired which led her to not have a good job. However, later on in the book, when Sheila found out about the death, and how she was partly the reason it happened, she felt very guilty about it and regretted everything she did. On the other hand, if we compare it to someone like Mr. Birling, who had no remorse or guilt whatsoever, Sheila was very sad and blamed herself and accepted that she was wrong. Mr. Birling didn’t seem to care at all about Eva Smith. The only time he would worry was when it came about his public image and how that news would ruin it for him. He was the one who started the chain of Eva’s tragedies which caused her to take her life away. In conclusion, Sheila Birling felt immensely upset and guilty that she caused Eva Smith pain, but she wasn’t the one who caused Eva Smith the most problems.
