How valid are the speakers reasons for his claim in “what is Fourth of July to a slave”
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

1. What is the speaker’s viewpoint? What is his claim?

In Patrick henrys “give me liberty or give me death” he believes that freedom is more important than life itself that how important it is to him and America. Henrys view point on all of this is that they should go to war and fight for there freedom.

2. What reasons does the speaker provide to support his viewpoint or claim?

Henry is afraid that if Britain doesn’t give them there freedom they well be eventually slaves to the British.

3. How valid are the speaker’s reasons for his claim? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.     Henry’s claim is valid because he is basing it on wars that happened in the pass because of freedom. “These are the implements of war and subjugation; the last arguments to which kings resort. I ask, gentlemen, sir, what means this martial array, if its purpose be not to force us to submission? Can gentlemen assign any other possible motive for it? Has Great Britain any enemy, in this quarter of the world, to call for all this accumulation of navies and armies?”

4. What evidence does the speaker provide to support his reasons?

Henry provides evidence that Great Britain still says that they want peace yet they have an army ready to strike and are untrustworthy.” as Great Britain any enemy, in this quarter of the world, to call for all this accumulation of navies and armies? No, sir, she has none. They are meant for us; they can be meant for no other. They are sent over to bind and rivet upon us those chains which the British ministry have been so long forging.”

5. Is the speaker’s evidence relevant and sufficient? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.

Henry’s evidence is sufficient he encourages everyone to prepare for war against England because they say they want piece yet they are un trust worthy and have army’s ready for war against us. as Great Britain any enemy, in this quarter of the world, to call for all this accumulation of navies and armies? No, sir, she has none. They are meant for us; they can be meant for no other.

6. Does the speaker use fallacious reasoning or logical fallacies? Use evidence from the text to support your answers.

Henry uses logical fallacies for his speech. Sir, we have been trying that for the last ten years. Have we anything new to offer upon the subject? Nothing. We have held the subject up in every light of which it is capable; but it has been all in vain. Shall we resort to entreaty and humble supplication? What terms shall we find which have not been already exhausted?

B. Patronizing

The words within the quotation marks you provided can best be described as patronizing because of how Mr. Auld seems to know what is best for someone other than himself the way a parent would; however, in this instance it takes the tone of disrespect as it is speaking of one who is grown as one would of a child who wouldn’t know what is best for himself or herself.

LITERATURE HELP 20 POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
prohojiy [21]
The theme in this poem talks about the hardships of life. Here the author shows a father who is explaining to his son that his life wasn't easy. This is evident when he compares life with stairs and how the stairs are filled with "splinters, And boards torn up, And places with no carpet on the floor" and how life wasn't as smooth as a "crystal stair". Then he states no matter how hard it was to go through those tacks and splinters barefoot he was able to keep on climbing. Then the father tells his son not to turn back because he himself is still climbing.

What is the purpose of these lines sonnet 18
KATRIN_1 [288]

William Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets. Sonnet 18 is perhaps the best known of all sonnets. Sonnet 18's purpose focuses on the loveliness of a friend or lover, begins with a rhetorical question comparing them to a summer's day. He also talks about the pros and cons to the weather, from an idyllic English summer's day to a less welcome dimmed sun and rough winds. In the end, it is the poetry that will keep the love alive forever, defying even death.
