The "Struggle of Orders" was a class conflict between the Plebeian class and the Patrician class on grounds of which class would control Rome. The Patrician class consisted mostly of the nobles and aristocrats while the Plebeian class consisted of lower class people especially farmers and traders.

During the span of over 200 years conflict, the Plebeians demanded positions in the government to defend the interests of the Plebeians and an alliance between the wealthy Plebeian class and the Patricians so that the wealthy plebeians would have some participation in the government.
