In the eighteenth century Isaac Newton found out that when a beam of light from the Sun, passes trhough a prism is decomposed in many different colors. He named this phenomenom as dispersion of light.
This phenomenom occurs when a beam of white light (which is compound of many wavelengths or "colors") is refracted (the different rays of light are diverted depending on their wavelengths) in some medium, leaving their constituent colors separated.
They are called fringing reefs. They grow directly from shore and form borders along the shoreline.
When a fringing reef continues to grow upward from a volcanic island that has sunk entirely below the sea level, an atoll is formed. Atolls are usually circular or oval in shape, with an open lagoon in the center.
The fringing reef is the most common type of coral reef. They however tend to be very sensitive to human induced pollution in the water and are easily destroyed by such.
As the ocean currents go around, they gather garbage from around the world and bring it to the centre of the pacific ocean where current is proven to be weakest. It can also be found in the Indian ocean and the Atlantic ocean.
