I would believe it is the Faults. On earth there are techtonic plates and where one plate and the other meet up - it is called the fault line. And when two plates i.e. collide, brush against each other etc. , then earthquakes, volcanos and tsunamis can be formed. In terms of seismic waves, Earthquakes create seismic waves.
