The ancient Greeks and Romans had, of course, a great impact on law as we know it today together with the government that can change it.

After the Greeks, we have adopted democracy. Although our democracy is quite different to the democracy of ancient times as they had something which is called direct democracy, while we elect representatives and let them represent our interests.

After the Romans we have emulated their rules and laws, some of which still partially apply today and are useful. They are, however, mostly strikingly different in these days, compared to Roman times.

Today, the fundamentalist movement in the Middle East calls for:
ikadub [295]

adherence to Islamic political traditions.

Fundamentalist beliefs in religion mean to return to the fundamental or basic ideas of a religion.

Fundamentalists in the Middle East believe Muslims need to return to the basic principles of Islam. Many want to return Islamic countries to Islamic law as the Muslim Empires had been once been. This ideology also encourages rejection of western culture and ideas and a return to a purer form of Islam.
