Due to the speed of the response involved, the body's first line of defense against shifts in pH is its ______ buffer systems.
scoray [572]

The body's first line of defence against shifts in pH is its acid-base buffer systems.

What is acid-base buffer system?

  • The proper balance between the acids and bases in the body's extracellular fluid is crucial for the normal physiology of the body and for cellular metabolism.
  • The first lines of defence are immediate, consisting of the various chemical buffers which minimize pH changes that would otherwise occur in their absence.
  • The pH of the intracellular fluid and the extracellular fluid need to be maintained at a constant level.
  • Proteins are denatured i.e. their 3D structure is disrupted, causing enzymes and ion channels to malfunction.
  • An acid–base imbalance is known as acidaemia when the pH is acidic and alkalaemia when the pH is alkaline.

why did arabesques become popular decorative designs used on sacred buildings and on the pages of the koran?
max2010maxim [7]

Short/simple answer: because it was forbidden to picture or sculpt anything figurative (i.e. representing a being or object). Figurative art could be wrongly interpreted as a depiction of Allah and worshipped instead of Him, and that would be considered idolatry.

[Brainliest]What qualities does contemporary society consider beautiful today?
Ad libitum [116K]
The standard of beauty is different from men and women because the standard women today are more into cosmetics etc. The standard men are into sports etc. What me and my peers do to conform with or rebel against these standards is to, by pass societies requirements of how the world wants us to live by coming up with our own creative ideas instead of societies. I receive messages about what is considered beautiful from video advertisements, social media, and by the miserable insecur confused world we now live in.
