It comes from the Latin's <em>"Latira"</em> which means <em>"Letters of the alphabet"</em>. It´s a literary device that consists of using a number of words with the same first consonant sound close together in a series.
In poetry and prose, it has the role to create a musical effect in the text. By doing this it makes that the reading and recitation of the pomes becomes attractive and appealing. Also is easier to learn them by heart. It´s also used in marketing for creating brand names interesting and easier to remember.
<span>The repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words is called alliteration. Alliteration was pretty common in earliest of poems when it was important to remember it, nowadays it is sometimes avoided.</span>
