The correct answer is C. As a punishment; In Jane Eyre, the author explains that Jane's mother's brother had died in the red room. One time while she is trying to defend herself from her evil cousin she is sent to the red room as punishment as it embodies terror. Jane's custodian (her aunt) often mistreats her and this was simply one of those occasions.

Hope this helps!

Which two parts of this excerpt from William Dean Howells's "Editha" idealize patriotism? "George: I understood—when you left me
LekaFEV [45]

Answer: The right answers are:

Excerpt 1: "But the man I marry must love his country first of all, and be able to say to me [...]."

Excerpt 2: "There is no honor above America with me. In this great hour there is no other honor."

Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, it can be added that, in these lines, the character of Editha is clearly expressing and idealizing her patriotism. She is writing a letter to her boyfriend, George, who, in order to win her love, must become a hero and fight for his country in the war. In these parts of the letter she is strongly putting forth her adamant conviction in, and fervent devotion to, her country.

stealth61 [152]

Answer:

In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet fit the literary archetype of star-crossed lovers as:

They are in love, they are doomed from the start, and their families would be upset if they knew Romeo and Juliet were in love.

The fate of Romeo and Juliet had a tragic ending because of the rivalry among the families. They became the victim of the rivalry which they have never been a part of. Misunderstandings, miscommunications and bad luck bring a tragic feel to the play. The audience feels pity for the couple who sacrificed their lives for true love.
