Which words in this excerpt from the Declaration of Independence are emotionally charged? Nor have We been wanting in attentions

to our British brethren. We have "warned" them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the "circumstances" of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and "magnanimity", and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these "usurpations", which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of "justice" and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

I would say that magnanimity, usurpations, and perhaps justice are emotionally charged words. You can clearly see the emotion in the words - these are strong words, not used lightly.

The correct answer is, <em>the words in the excerpt from the Declaration of Independence that are emotionally charged are, “</em><em>warned”, “circumstances”, “magnanimity”, “usurpations”, and “justice”.</em>

Warned: is emotionally charged because according to the excerpt, the American colonies have warned the British of their attempts to impose legislation.

Circumstances: is emotionally charged because when using the word circumstances, American colonies are referring to the reasons of their immigration and settlement in America.

Magnanimity: is emontionally charged because the term Magnanimity is here referred as extreme piety and a claim for justice.

Usurpations: is emotionally charged because the term refers to an action incorrectly or unlawfal taken away what belongs to the Americans.

Justice: is emotionally charged because that is the claim the colonies are demanding from their consanguinity brothers.

Select the correct text in the passage.
NeTakaya

Answer:

His neck ached horribly; his brain was on fire, his heart, which had been fluttering faintly, gave a great leap, trying to force itself out at his mouth.

Explanation:

Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" is a short story that tells the story of the hanging of Peyton Farquhar because of his crime of attempting to help destroy Owl Creek's railroad bridge. The story focuses on his dream where he escapes the execution but in reality, he was hanged. The story oscillates between the dream and reality.

Understanding that the narration oscillates between the desire to escape/the dream and the reality of the situation, it is difficult to know which is which. But in the given passage, the sentence that shows the reality of his situation is the description of the pain he experienced. The narrator reveals, <em>"His neck ached horribly; his brain was on fire, his heart, which had been fluttering faintly, gave a great leap, trying to force itself out at his mouth."</em> This is, in fact, the real pain that Farquhar is experiencing when he was hanged, but to him, he dreamed that he was underwater and that he's going to escape.

Thus, the correct answer is<u> "His neck ached horribly; his brain was on fire, his heart, which had been fluttering faintly, gave a great leap, trying to force itself out at his mouth."</u>
