In addition, at the end of the 18th century there are novels loaded with a melancholic sentimentality that open the romantic period that fully develops in the 19th century with the appearance of the historical, psychological, poetic and social novel. The genre reaches its technical perfection with realism and naturalism. It is at this time when the novel reaches its maturity as a genre. Its form and aesthetics no longer changed until the twentieth century: its division into chapters, the use of the narrative past and an omniscient narrator.
