Early Migrants that first settled in America came across the Bering Straight and possibly even from Asia. Their population was diverse, scattered, but still self-sufficient. In the archaic period, the Natives supported themselves through hunting, gathering, and then later developed nets and hooks to fish. Even later, the natives began farming which required them to stay in one place, resulting in settlements.
