We will solve this using proportions, like this:

3/4 cup for 8 slices of pie

x cup for 48 slices of pie

x = ((3/4)*48)/8

x = (3*48)/(4*8)

x = 144/32

x = 4,5

You need  4 1/2 cups of white sugar for 48 slices of pie.
