You could say that when you find the square root, you are tracing back its roots, see what makes it up. Like a person has two parents, a number has two other numbers. Just keep in mind the two numbers have to be identical. If you know what exponental growth is, then that kinda explains exponents, because when you use exponents, numbers tend to have exponential growth.
